Comprehension and memory of emotional pictures

One of the critical pieces of information we must comprehend in order to react appropriately is whether a particular situation has a positive or a negative emotional content: the former will elicit approach and the latter avoidance. We study how quickly and on what basis a person understands the emotional content of an unknown scene and to what extent cognitive processes are affected by the emotional content of an image.

We study the comprehension of the images from a behavioral, computational (in collaboration with Hany Farid from Dartmouth), and neuroscience perspective (in collaboration with Harriet de Wit, Dept. Psychiatry).
