SHORT-TERM PRIMING
To select relevant information from the world we need a system capable of tracking outside events and internal goals in space and time. We have detailed a short-term priming mechanism that is constantly adjusted over time -- the traces for repeatedly important features get strengthened, and for those that are no longer important get weakened.

The simple summation properties of this mechanism allow it to function as a frequency estimator. More frequent relevant events produce a stronger memory trace than less frequent events.
